"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand." (Ephesians 6:12-13)
We are in uncharted territory as a nation. I don't know what the next few months may bring. But here is how I plan to live my life:
#1. ONE DAY AT A TIME
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." (Mat. 6:34)
Every morning I wake up -- I say, "Thank you God for this day, and for your mercies that are fresh this morning." I have two other prayers that I find myself praying often: The Lord's Prayer (Mat. 6), and a prayer Peter encourages us to pray in 1 Peter 5:7, "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you." I regularly say, "God, I'm casting it all on you. I can't carry it. I give it to you. I trust you with all my concerns, knowing that you love and care for me and will always do what is good."
#2. LOVING MY FAMILY, FRIENDS & CHURCH
Man, I can't "fix" politics, or magically wave a wand and resolve all of the division people are experiencing over masks, lock-downs, etc. But I can hug my wife and kids and love and support and pray for my friends and church family. So, I'm going to focus on what I can do each day and do it, trusting God.
#3. IN THE WORD & PRAYER
"Man shall not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord." (Deuteronomy 8:3) I NEED a daily dose of God's truth, promises and instruction. I am bombarded all day long with fear-mongering messages, struggles, what-if questions, challenges, etc. I don't just like, or enjoy reading God's Word as a "Christian Exercise," I NEED it as a "lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path." (Ps. 119:105)
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." (Phil 4:6-7)
I NEED that peace, don't you!?!? So, I make up my mind daily to TRUST in the Lord with all of my heart and lean not on my own understanding---in all my ways---I acknowledge (look to) Him---and I trust Him to make my paths straight! (Prov. 3:5-6).
God's people are BUILT for times like this. We can do ALL THINGS through the ONE who gives us strength (Phil 4:13). The One who is in us is greater than the one who is in this world (1 Jn. 4:4). We are MORE than COQUORERS in Christ (Rom. 8:37).
So, my friends stand firm in Christ! Let's live our lives one-day-at-a-time. Let's love the people around us and let's feed on the Word daily and pour our hearts our Heavenly Father----laying all of our anxieties in His lap, and His peace that blows our minds---will guard our hearts and minds in Christ!
