Now, I’ve got another word of ENCOURAGEMENT for you this week!

OVERCOMING FEAR WITH FAITH!
As Christ-followers, God calls us to overcome fear with faith! I’ve learned and relearned this truth over & over again through life.  I’ve faced (as have you) many frightening /intimidating circumstances in life.  We’re all facing a HUGE scary circumstance right now in Covid 19.  So how do we overcome fear (whenever it appears) with faith?

FIRST: WHAT IS FEAR?

Fear: an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous or likely to cause pain.

NOTE: What we believe in life, greatly impacts what we are afraid of in life, and how we respond to that fear.

The first time I rode The Beast (a large wooden roller coaster at King’s Island in Cincinnati, OH)--I was terrified (because I BELIEVED I was going to die!) my friend was excited--why?  He’d ridden it before and knew what was coming.  We were both walking through the same experience, bit I was paralyzed & my friend was excited!  The difference?  What we believed about what was about to happen.

“Caution” & “concern” can be helpful mindsets, but when they morph into ANXIETY, WORRY, or DOUBT, fear can paralyze us and causes us to live and treat others in harmful, hurtful ways.

So, how do we overcome FEAR with FAITH?

Hebrews 11:1 (NIV)“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”

Now, we could write books about this verse (and many have), but the bottom line is that FAITH is confidence in God and it produces assurance in our heart--that we can indeed trust and rely upon His goodness, love and promises to us in ALL circumstances--including death.

When we CHOOSE to live by faith (confidence in God), He grows much BIGGER in our lives and our fears grow much smaller!  It’s a daily choice.

Here are a couple FAITH BUILDING verses:
Colossians 3:2 (NIV) “Set (fix, unwaveringly) your minds on things above, NOT (as in don’t do this!) on earthly things.”

Psalm 119:15 (NIV) “I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.”

John 8:31-32 (NIV) “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. 32 Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

Build your BELIEF system upon God, His Character and His Promises, NOT worldly news and philosophy--your FAITH (confidence) in God will grow and your FEAR level will go way down!

Until next time, fix your eyes on Jesus, the author and perfected of our faith!

Life will make you BITTER, or BETTER, it's your choice.

80s Christian metal blessings!

Hey Christian Metal-Maniacs, Pastor Brad here!  I pray that you are strong in the Lord today--that His joy is your strength and that His peace is guarding your hearts and minds today!

I want to share a timeless truth with you today.  This tidbit of wisdom has guided me through many-a-dark time,  it goes like this, "Life will make you bitter, or better, it's your choice."

Growing up, my Uncle Morrie had that quote framed and on his wall.  I read it a bazillion times.  I always thought it was a great thought, but I never fully appreciated it, until I experienced tough times.

Life is hard.

Just yesterday morning, I was in a meeting with our staff at the church.  Within about ten minutes we had talked about earthquakes and fires out west, floods in Michigan and Virginia, tornados all across the middle of the country, a tropical storm brewing in the south Atlantic, the current Covid 19 pandemic shutting the world down and people losing livelihoods as a result!  I wanted to just throw my hands up and say, “I give up!”  I mean dude, life is hard!

Life will make you bitter, or better, it’s your choice.

On March 1st, 1988 I walked into Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis to check in for a surgery I would have the next morning to remove a benign brain tumor.  I walked in with perfect vision.  The next day, when I came to post-op, I had lost 75% of my vision (completely unexpected).  For a good year I prayed, wept, begged, negotiated, etc. with God---pleading with Him to restore my sight.

His response was Romans 12:9 (NIV) “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

For a long time, I didn’t like that answer.  I wanted my sight back!

But that was not God’s plan.

Eventually I had to look in in the mirror and say, “Brad, this will either make you bitter, or better, it’s your choice.”

Praise God, with His help, I was able to surrender my pain and insecurities associate with losing my vision, and God, in His amazing goodness--replaced my fears with his grace and a fresh VISION for living life in Him!

I can honestly say, thirty-two years later, that I’m THANKFUL for all that God has taught me about trusting Him---through the loss of my physical sight.

God is good all the time, and all the time God is good!

What are you struggling with right now?

What difficulties or hardship are tempting you to become jaded and bitter?

Man, I encourage you to embrace the wisdom of an old cliché,

“Let go and let God.”

Lay your fears at His feet, let go of any forgiveness or worries about what “might” happen tomorrow.  Read Psalm 23 and contemplate the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13) and allow His Word to reaffirm His TRUSTWORTHY promises and guidance to you---and allow His Spirit to make you BETTER--to deepen your faith, develop your character so that you become more like Jesus, etc.

Life will make you bitter, or better, it’s your choice.  Choose to trust Him today!

The Cross Is My ROCK!

THE CROSS IS MY ROCK!

That’s one of the BIG lessons I’ve re-learned through this Covid-19 experience.

When I say, “The Cross Is My Rock”, I’m not necessarily referring to a Bible verse, I’m talking about the REALITY that Jesus, The Son of God, left Heaven, came to this broken world and endured all of that vile, heinous, torture and mistreatment FOR ME (and YOU)! And He did it because He LOVES us!

Knowing that…

Reflecting on that…

Remembering that… has literally CARRIED me through so many tough times in life.

When I’m scared, confused, anxious, lost…

When I just don’t know what to do---I RUN TO THE CROSS!

In my heart, I pause, and REMEMBER, God’s Son died for ME. I am forgiven, loved, lavished with grace, a child of God… God is for me, in me, with me… He is all-knowing, all-powerful, and working in ALL THING for my GOOD!

I may not know what to do at this moment, or what’s around the next corner—BUT I KNOW THE ONE WHO DOES! And I know He loves me---because of THE CROSS!

Romans 5:8 (NIV) “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

I don’t know what you may be dealing with right now, but I know somebody who does, and HE LOVES YOU! If you ever doubt that---remember the cross!
