SAGA -- Life is hard - God is good!

SAGE is track 12 from my 2004 80s Christian Rock / Metal release, “Out Of The Hellhole.” SAGA is an onslaught of 80s influenced Christian Metal encouragement! It’s a full-frontal-assault of hard-rock spiritual edification and challenge. Life is a SAGA—filled with ups and downs. As Christ-followers we KNOW that we NEVER walk through a single moment of life ALONE. Jesus is ALWAYS with us. And anything He leads us TO He will lead us THROUGH.

No Turning Back - Following Jesus!

NO TURNING BACK is track 9 from my 2004 80s Christian Rock / Metal release, “Out Of The Hellhole.” Do you remember the old hymn, “I Have Decided To Follow Jesus,” by S. Sundar Singh?

I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
I have decided to follow Jesus;
No turning back, no turning back.

NO TURNING BACK is an 80s style-Christian-hard-rock/metal style reinvention of that classic song of the church. I hope it totally Rocks You Up for Jesus!

John Cusack - Say Anything, Jon Hooper, Pastor Brad & Instrumental Metal for Jesus!

This song brings a lot of fun elements together--John Cusack, with a line from one of my favorite 80s movies, Say Anything... Some smokin' licks by the very talented Canadian Shredder, Jon Hooper and some humble addtions by Yours Truly -- on this instrumental metal song -- that was inspired while I was working on "modes" on the guitar... I discovered a scale that sounded very "arabian" -- alas - "Arabian Nights." Enjoy!

You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch - Coming Thanksgiving Day 2016!

You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch is the epitome of CLASSIC Christmas! I grew up loving the Dr. Seuss film, “How The Grinch Stole Christmas” and this song was a focal track all the way through! The lyrics for the original performance were written by Theodor, “Dr. Seuss” Geisel. The music was composed by Albert Hague. And the original recording featured an unforgettable performance by Thurl Ravenscroft—well known as the voice of “Tony The Tiger!”

If you’re a fan of hard rock & metal music – especially old-school, 80s style instrumental shred guitar music – you are going to love my cover of You’re A Mean One Mr. Grinch! It’s jam-packed with heavy metal melodic hard rock riffs, licks, tricks and all around rock-n-roll awesomeness!

See you Thanksgiving day!

GAME OVER - Instrumental Metal with a melodic punch!

Here's a little jam to rock you though that day/night.  BIG thanks to Jon Hooper--who just amokes on this track!--He and I sort of trade licks back an forth on this one. ... A little behind the scenes secret--this song was inspired by the theme song to a "Spy Kids" movie---I think it was part three... I was watching it with my kids... heard the theme song... got inspired... run upstairs to my studio and recorded the ideal that became this song :-) Enjoy!

Pastor Brad Rocks Podcast October 2016

The PB Rocks 80s Christian Rock / Metal Music Podcast is a colossal serving of 80s style Jesus-honoring melodic metal music, bible teaching and edification for your walk with Christ! In this episode, I share FOUR more tracks from my 2004 release, “Out Of The Hellhole” – Sound The Alarm, Saga, City Streets & Crazy—Each of these songs delivers a musical punch & spiritual message guaranteed to Rock You Up! Oh how we need to hear the alarm and awaken fully in Christ & fight the good fight of faith! We are in a battle and this song is a call to arms! Saga is a musical message of encouragement to hang tough with Jesus and to remember that in Christ we are victorious! City Streets is a redeemed song of rebellion. In its original form it was a garage-band anthem of revolt against authority—but after God’s Spirit took up residence in my heart and filled me with an attitude of joy and peace in Him—this song was re-envisioned as an metal hymn proclaiming Christ’s call to every believer to shine for Him loud and proud in the world! And finally, CRAZY is another song from my garage-band days that was originally about sticking it to “the man” – but under the influence of the Holy Spirit it blossomed into a song celebrating God’s good gift of hard-rock music to the world!  Enjoy!

A Lighter Shade of Melancholy

A Lighter Shade of Melancholy is a cut from my 2006 release - "RESHREDDED". This is an 80s influenced-hard-rock instrumental shred guitar song that mixes acoustic guitar with shred metal tones! I’m especially blessed by this song because it contains a guest appearance by one of my guitar heros—Dee Harrington of the Christian metal band, SAINT. He laid an amazing track on the second half of this song—thanks Dee! Enjoy!

THE WAY -- Track 5 from Out Of The Hellhole

The Way is track 5 on my 2004 release, “Out Of The Hellhole” – Friend==THE WAY isn’t a three-point plan. It’s not a self-help-philosophy. It’s a person, JESUS. You might remeber that 80s Christian Metal legends, Stryper also wrote a song about this, also titled, THE WAY! This is a fundamental reality within Christianity--it positions and presents Christianity as a RELATIONSHIP with a Living Savior and totally differentiates Christianity from mere religion.

In the gospel of John, Jesus is talking to his disciples and he shares this truth with them, saying, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.” 5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” 6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:1-6).

In this 80s style Christian Metal anthem I proclaim loud and proud that when you place your trust in Jesus—you have found THE WAY…. You’ve discovered the TRUTH and you have been filled with real, eternal, abundant, LIFE---and its name is JESUS. No wonder the Bible says, “Christ in you, the hope of glory” (Col. 1:27). I was blessed to be able to perform THE WAY at the Cornerstone Christian Music Festival in 2009, on the Sanctuary Stage. This video contains some brief clips from that performance. Thanks so much for reading and watching!

The Conquest

Life is filled with calls for CONQUEST--God called Israel to a conquest -- driving out the idolatrous inhabitants of the "Promised Land."  Christ, in his earthly ministry conquered death, hell and the grave--crushing the head (power) of Satan.  So there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ--because in Him we are VICTORIOUS---more than conquerors!  Someday he will return to finalize his dominion--to separate the sheep from the goats--cast death into the lake of fire--along with the devil and all who follow him. and usher in the new Heaven & Earth!  It's awesome!

This is an instrumental song... but it presents a "conquest" story in sound :-)

I'll never forget creating this tune with one of my guitar-heros, Dee Harrington (of SAINT). Dee graciously played on this song... amazing stuff! You know know it's Dee when the guitar sounds like a hive of angry BEES! :-) (About 2/3 through--after the "bomb" drops) Enjoy!

"Well done, good anf faithful servant!"

Well Done is track 3 on my 2004 release, “Out Of The Hellhole” – available everywhere! As a follower of Jesus—one of my deepest guiding desires is to hear my Lord and King say to me on THAT DAY, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” This statement comes from a parable Jesus told in the gospel of Matthew, chapter 25, about a master (representing Himself) and three servants (representing us)—each of whom the master entrusted with “talents” (resources to steward for him). At the end of the parable—the master returns (a foreshadowing of judgment day) and “settles his accounts.”

Here’s a blurb from the actual passage…

“After a long time the master of those servants returned and settled accounts with them. 20 The man who had received five bags of gold brought the other five. ‘Master,’ he said, ‘you entrusted me with five bags of gold. See, I have gained five more.’ 21 His master replied, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant! You have been faithful with a few things; I will put you in charge of many things. Come and share your master’s happiness!’” (Matthew 25:19-21, NIV).

Oh how I am looking forward to THAT day! And oh how my awareness of THAT day’s coming motivates me to live with all of my heart for King Jesus NOW! All of this is of course presented in an 80s style, Christian metal music package, called, "Well Done" ... Enjoy!

Jesus is our Awesome SON OF MAN Savior!

Son Of Man is a Christian parody of the classic hard rock song, IRON MAN, by Black Sabbbath. It's part of my 2016 release, Storm The Gates (available everywhere).

I didn't really discover Black Sabbath until the Ronnie James Dio years. Heaven and Hell was my first Sabbath album. But, of course, from that point I worked back to the previous Sabbath classics with Ozzy. I was nevery a "massive" Black Sabbath fan--they were always a little too dark for me---even before I became a Christian--but I always totally appreciated Tony Iommi as a guitarist... and Bill Ward and GeezerButler on drums and bass were just geat musicians.

So, when it came time for me to put a Christian parody album--of classic 1970s and early 80s hard rock metal songs together---NOT inlcuding a Sabbath tune was NOT an option.... and for me---there is no more recognizable Black Sabbath song, than "Iron Man".

My hope for this song was to a) honor the musicianship of the artists who created the original--and obvously inspired me musicially... and b) to honor Jesus with the lyrical message---enjoy!

Detroit Rock City - Ice Cream & JESUS!

Jesus Rock Solid is track one on STORM THE GATES, a Christian Rock/Metal album featuring parodies of classic hard-rock/hair metal songs from the 70s & 80s.

KISS was THE ONLY BAND I really loved as a kid. My first KISS album was Love Gun. I was in fourth grade. I will NEVER forget those days. Up to the point that I surrendered my life to Christ in 1987—I was very proud that I owned ALL of KISS’s albums… I was such a huge fan.  Dude, I even LOVED “The Elder!

I caught KISS live six times in the 80s—Creatures, Lick It Up, Animalize—and three times on the Asylum tour (In Indianapolis, Terra Haute & Evansville, IN). I actually got back stage in Evansville and met Eric Carr… crazy.

When I surrendered my life to Christ in 87 I let go of all of my music.  I actually busted my entire album collection. I know it sounds a little bit radical, but it was just something I needed to do.

So, when it was time to create a parody album—I wanted to honor the musicians who inspired me to play music---and also honor my Lord with the lyric/message of the song.  I knew a KISS song HAD to be part of the collection—and I just couldn’t think of a better representation of “KISSness” than Detroit Rock City—from the Destroyer album!

In this video teaching I share some of the thought behind this song.  C.S. Lewis had a really cool view of Christ and the Body of Christ (i.e. the Church). I won’t spoil the video by telling you what it was here  but I think it’s super insightful and liberating!  Thanks for reading and watching!

JESUS SAID -- The Story Behind My Parody of Quiet Riot's "Metal Health"

In this vid I share the story behind "JESUS SAID,” m Christ-honoring Parody of Quiet Riot’s early 80s metal hit—Metal Health, A.K.A. “Bang Your Head.”  This song is part of my 2016 Christian Metal Parody album, Storm The Gates (available everywhere :-).  This song is all about the awesome reality that Jesus said, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (The Bible, John 3:16).

How awesome is that?

I will never forget seeing Quiet Riot live in Market Square Arena in Indianapolis, IN in 1983 on the Metal Health Tour.  They were an amazing three-piece band!  I remember Rudy Sarzo laying his bass on the stage and playing it "piano-style" at one point... Carlos Cavazo was an impressive guitar player.  Frankie Banali was a rock-solid drummer and of course, Kevin Dubrow had that huge personality that was next to impossible to ignore!

It was a pure honor to parody this song.  My goal was to pay tribute to the musicians who played a big role in inspiring me to become a musician---and also to redeem the message in a way that would exalt and honor my Lord, Jesus Christ.  Enjoy--and may it totally Rock You Up for Jesus!

KISS - Detroit Rock City -- Christian Parody by Pastor Brad

Possibly like you---for me--when I was a kid--there was NO OTHER BAND--besides KISS.  They were bigger than life.  I was so totally mesermized.  Up until the day I surrendered my life to Christ in 1987--I prided myself in being able to say that I owned the entire KISS catalogue.  I actually busted up & trashed my entire album collection that year--it might sound crazy--but it was something I needed to do---music was a god in my life--one that needed to be delt with.  But I digress---When I decided to do a Christian Parody album--I knew a KISS song HAD to be on it--------and I couldn't think of one that conveyed what KISS was all about to me---more than Detroit Rock City.  I saw KISS live 6 times--and all but one of those shows was opened with this song--it's an "anthem."

My goal for every song on STORM THE GATES was to, a) pay tribute to the musicians who inspired me to become a musician myself, and b) to honor Jesus with the lyrical message.  I believe I achieved both with this one--I hope you will agree!  Enjoy!

Can We Trust The Bible? Part 4 "Science"

Can we trust the Bible? As Christians—we have entrusted our eternity to the message of this book… so, can we trust it? In part 1 we began looking at a series of six questions that scholars and historians use to measure the accuracy and reliability of any ancient document. Here’s what we’ve covered so far:

Part 1: Is the text based on eye-witness accounts?

Part 2: How trustworthy and accurate are the copies?

Part 3: Is the text archaeologically reliable?

In part four we dig into the question, “Is the Bible scientifically accurate?” Many people are quick to say things like, “Faith and Science are incompatible.” But in this video, you’ll hear that science and scripture are actually quite compatible. Whether you’re a Christ-follower, or just curious about this topic—I think you’ll be blessed by what you discover.

The Power of FREEWILL: "Every Tub Stands on its OWN BOTTOM!"

I remember when I was young in Christ--I had what I called a "Jesus Complex"... I thought I had to save all of my friends and family, etc.  Yes, I know how rediculous that sounds... but it was very real to me.  Years of walking with Jesus have grown me up in that area a lot... my passion for everyone to know Christ as Savir is JUST as robust as ever... but today I understand that what my Grandma taught me when I was a kid is so true, "Every tub stands on it's own bottom."  I.e.  When Jesus returns--and we all stand before him... I can't stand there for you---or anyone else.  I am responsible for me.  Each of us is responsible for our own choices.

When Jesus said ".. that whosoever believes in Him will not perish...( (John 3:16) He was saying, "It's a choice..." Everyone is invited to the party!  God wants us all to be part of the family... but He's not going to FORCE anyone to believe---that defeats the whole purpose.  Nobody wants a person to "love" them because they're FORCED to.. that's not real love.

God created us with FREE WILL.  Heaven will be filled with people who CHOSE to believe in Christ as Savior; those who chose to trust, love, and follow Him as Lord!  That's what this video is all about!  I hope it totally Rocks You Up!

Say What You Will (Christian Metal Parody)

God loved the world so much that he send His Son Jesus to be our Savior.  Jesus emptied himself of heavenly glory (Phil. 2:7) ... was born... walk in the flesh among us and endured the worst, most torturous death imaginable for my sin and yours!

Jesus himself said it this way, "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life." (John 3:16)

My Christian Parody of this classice 80s Metal song by FASTWAY is all about the phrase, "...whoever believes in him..." implied in that phrase is the idea of FREE WILL.  God, as Billy Graham says, "is a gentleman."  He will never force anyone to love Him that doesn't want to.  So Jesus cam and laid his life down for all who will CHOOSE to accept Him as Savior and Lord.

This song talks all about an amazing gift God gave us--called FREE WILL.  I hope you enjoy the song and that it encourages and challenges you to be part of the "whoever" that choose to follow Christ!

Oh ya, and if you do enjoy the song--remember to subscribe to my YouTube Channel--I relase a brand-new 80s Christian Metal video every Friday to Rock You Up!

How Jesus Totally Defeated The Devil!

Hey fellow Jesus loving Metal Head friends---be encouraged... know this... If you are in Christ--the Devil has ZERO power over your life.  In Genesis 3 we read about the FIRST SIN... Adan and Eve disobey God and eat the forbidden fruit.  Immediately following---we read the God confronts them and pronounces the "curse" that would befall the world as a result of sin.  Then God turns to the Devil in 3:15 and says, "And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring[a] and hers; he will crush[b] your head, and you will strike his heel.”

This verse is called the PROTO EVANGELUM (Latin for "first gospel") by scholars.  This is the first announcement by God that ONE would come (via Eve's descendants) who would CRUSH THE HEAD (Destory the power) of the Devil!

THAT is what this video is all about---and this is also what my 80s Christian Metal Parody of Ozzy Osbourne's, "CRAZY TRAIN" -- which I call, "The Dragon Is Slain"... is all about!

Crazy Train, by Ozzy (A Christian Parody) The Dragon Is Slain

Dude, I will never forget riding out to "Karma Records" in Anderson, IN. to pick up the "EX lead singer for Black Sabbath" -- Ozzy Osbourn's DEBUT album--"Blizzard of Ozz."  I had NEVER heard of Randy Rhoads.  The cover was kind of spooky... but that was to be expected coming from a guy with Black Sabbath on their resume.

To be 100% honest, I don't know if I would have gotten all that excited (at that point) about Ozzy, if my friend Paul Hickner--a Tony Iommi/Black Sabbath fan--hadn't said to me, "Dude, you gotta check this album out!"

So on my friends recamendation I bought it... brought it home... put it on ---- and became and instant Ozzy/Randy mega fan.  It was just an amazing collection of music.

Of course---the whole culture/world associated with that music led me to a very dark place.  And when God touched me with His redeeming love and delivered me out of that dark place--I was MORE than happy to say good-bye to all of it... but my appreciation for the music and musicians never faded---and when it was time to put together a collection of Christ-honoring parodies of classic metal songs from "the day"---Crazy Train" HAD to be part of it!  My goal with this song--as with every song on Storm The Gates--was to pay tribute to the song-writing & musicianship that inspired me to become a musician---and to redeem the message of each song for the glory of Christ.  I hope after listening--you think I accomplished both of those goals!

Luke Weber does a stellar job on lead vocals---Thanks so much Luke!!!!  Here's the video--enjoy!  And if you haven't subscribed to The Pastor Brad Rocks YouTube Channel (A NEW video Every Friday)---Subscribe today, thanks!

My Christian Parody of SAXON'S "Dallas 1PM"

Saxon are an English heavy metal band formed in 1976, in South Yorkshire. As one of the leaders of the new wave of British heavy metal, they had eight UK Top 40 albums in the 1980s including four UK Top 10 albums and two Top 5 albums. The band also had numerous singles in the UK Singles Chart and chart success all over Europe and Japan, as well as success in the US. During the 1980s Saxon established themselves as one of Europe's biggest metal acts. The band tours regularly and have sold more than 15 million albums worldwide. They are considered one of the classic metal acts and have influenced many bands such as Metallica, Mötley Crüe, Pantera, Sodom, and Megadeth.[1] (from Wikipedia)

And you could add to that list--Pastor Brad.  I will never forget the first time I spun (remember albums?) DALLAS 1PM...  I was an instant fan!  So when I decided to do Storm The Gates--my first Christian Parody album---SAXON had to be part of it!  Dallas 1pm is about the assassination of President Kennedy--in Dallas, at 1pm.  My parody is called Jerusalem 3pm and it's about the crucifixion of Jesus--in Jerusalem, at 3pm.  Enjoy!

Jesus Rock Solid--Parody of Detroit Rock City--Release THIS FRIDAY, April 29!

KISS was a giant musical influence on me as a kid back in the 70s. When KISS Alive 2 came out--with that amazing shot KISS in concert--spread across the entire center of that double album I was one-hundred-percent mesmerized. If you're a fan, you know that track one on that album was Detroit Rock City--and it's had a special place in my musical influence catalogue ever since!

My goal with this song was three-fold:

1) I wanted to pay homage to the musicians who impacted my life in huge ways and played a significant role in influencing me to become a musician myself.

2) I wanted to honor Jesus--the great Redeemer--by redeeming the message of the song. The original song was about a kid who dies in a car accident (according to the stories I've heard) on his way to a KISS concert. The lyrics to Jesus Rock Solid proclaim the Lordship and majesty of the Author of Life--who will return some day to judge the living and the dead and usher in a glorious new creation.

3) I wanted to put just a little Pastor Brad spin on the performance--I think that comes through. I'm really happy with the way this one turned out. I hope it will totally Rock You Up for Jesus! Thanks for taking the time to check this out.

You can get the song at pastorbradrocks.net THIS FRIDAY!  And on that same day -- it goes live on YouTube!

The First Time I Heard KISS

I think I was over at my friends'--Billy and Darens' house... they had KISS ALIVE 1... I remember sitting on their bed-room floor mesmerized by the album artword/info... Remember the "letters" from Gene, Paul, Peter & Ace on the inside cover... in the middle..that was another thing that was super cool about ALIVE 1 -- it was a double album, which gave them a lot of space to plaster really cool images, etc. all over.  I'll never foget that photo of the crowd with the four or five fans standing there holding... I think it was a home-made KISS banner.  I always thought, "Wow, how cool would it be to be those guys!?"

Yup, I was pretty geeked out over KISS as a kid.  I bragged about having EVERY album they had released---up to Asylum.  I saw them six times in concert... three times on the Asylum tour alone--Indy, Terra Haute, and Evansville (where I got backstage and met Eric Carr--which is a story I'll share later).

A LOT has changed in my heart and life since those days, but there was no way I could do an album of music that influenced me as a kid and not include a KISS song.

Jesus Rock Solid (parody of DETROIT ROCK CITY) kicks the whole thing off---which appropriate because in many ways KISS was the first hard rock band I really dug.

Storm The Gate--A Classic Rock/Metal Christian Parody Album

Y-know, it's funny.  I always had kind of a bad taste in my mouth for parody songs.  I think it must have been my experience with Weird Al and his early 80s parodies of Michael Jackson's Beat it ("Eat it") and Bad ("I'm fat").  The whole concepts just felt cheesy and cheep to me--not disrespect intended to Al.

Fast forward to 2016...
For a long I wanted to do some kind of Christ-honoring version of a Cover/Tribute album--to highlight and pay due homage to the music and musicians of the 1970s & 80s who inspired me to become a musician.  So in late 2015 I picked out 20 songs and set to workl laying tracks.  My plan was to keep as many of the original lyrics in tact, tweek things just enough to clean-up (where necesary) and redeem/nonor Jesus (where possible) the lyrical message.

You can see the full track list HERE.
Just scroll down to the Storm The Gates Album info.

Long story short---er...

Here are some of the lessons I learned:

  • You can't just tweek a lyric in a song... I mean you might be able to change "a" word, but not three or four lines--let alone transform the message/meaning of a song.  That's a major copyright infringement and you have to get permission from the rights holder to do it.
  • The Parody/fair use laws in our country are very fair.  I found a GREAT video that TOTALLY help me understand this issue.  On the off-chance that you might want to learn about the legalities of parody--here's the video I watched.

So, I decided to do a PARODY album.
But not in 1980s cheeze-whiz style---I set out to create an album that truly reflect the statement I use to describe my music to people all the time.

"If AC/DC, KISS, Judas Priest, Ozzy and Iron Maiden jumped into a Christian blender and came out playing Christ-honoring music---that's pretty much what you get with Pastor Brad"

And that's truly pretty much what you get with the Storm The Gates album(s).

A STATEMENT I WILL POST -- With Storm The Gates when released:

Are songs on STORM THE GATES parodies or just rewrites (A.K.A. “derivative works”)?
According to Webster's dictionary, a parody is "A composition in which the form and expression of serious writings are closely imitated but adapted to a ridiculous subject or a humorous method of treatment; a burlesque imitation of a serious poem."

This definition describes perfectly the songs on STORM THE GATES. I did my best to closely imitate the style and sound of the original compositions and I adapted them to a subject that seems utterly ridiculous to many non-Christ-following people. The primary message of every song is the Cross (I.e. the redemptive work of Jesus Christ at Calvary).

The Apostle Paul wrote,  “For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” (1 Corinthians 1:18)  While my fellow Christians will view this message in the spirit that Paul describes above, as “the power of God,” many will likely perceive the whole thing as a gimmick or uninformed, naïve religiosity. I’m sure many will view the mixing of secular rock music with biblical lyrics as ridiculous or possibly even scandalous. Others will find it all quite amusing and humorous. I know that before I became a Christian, I felt there was something inherently funny (cheesy/ridiculous) about a “serious rock song” being used for “religious” purposes. For all of these reasons, in my view—the songs on Storm The Gates are the epitome of parodied music.

How God used Ronnie James Dio -- to draw me toward Jesus

It was the Holy Diver tour, Oct. 24, 1985 @ Market Square Arena, Indianapolis, IN. I was seated about 45 feet from the stage... up on the left just a bit... really good seats. By the way--as an aside--I was 18. I had been raised in Church, but I was in no way living for Jesus at this time. I was HUGELY into the whole metal music/party scene.

I had really enjoyed the show to this point. Ronnie and the band broke into Heaven and Hell... and in the middle of the tune they sort of broke things down into a cool bass/drum groove. Ronnie began sharing a story over it.  It was all about the classic angel on one shoulder and demon on the other.  Only instead of angels, Ronnie used ships.  It went something like this... He kind of talk-sang it...

"There's a little black ship down below me
and it said, 'Come with me and I will give you desire.'

The lighting shifted to match the mood and the crowd cheered.  Ronnie played up--interacting with the audience retion.

Then the mood shifted again.
The tone took on a celestial, sort of heavenly feel.

Ronnie continued with the story.

"There's a little white ship up above me,
And it said, 'Come with me, cause I know just what to do.'"

Dramatic pause...  Suspended celestial music... anticipation building...

Then Ronnie concluded the story with words that shook the building and cut me to the heart.

In an almost angry, forceful tone, Ronnie shouted out,

"But I said, 'Go away! Cause I'm gonna burn in hell with all of you! And you! And you!" (as he pointed at various sections of the arena).

Bright lights lit up the crowd as they roared to life, shouting out in full-throated agreement!

My jaw dropped.  I was stunned.

What just happened here?  Did he really just say what I think he said?  Did all of these people just respond the way I think they did?

All I could think was, "Unt uh buddy! Not me man! You can go there if you want to--but I'm not going with you!"

I didn't go to a Dio concert expecting to hear from God, but I sure did!
I didn't commit my life to Christ right then and there... but God definitely got my attention and set some things in motion within my heart. My spirit woke up to some spiritual realities I had ignored for too long.

Eighteen months later I surrendered my heart to Jesus and never looked back!
